St Kilda ruckman Tom Hickey and on-baller Luke Dunstan have signed two-year contract extensions.

It ties them to the AFL club until at least the end of 2019.

The pair have been important parts of the Saints' engine room, with former Gold Coast big man Hickey playing 20 games in 2016.

The 25-year-old was ranked 12th in the league for hit-outs last year as the club missed the finals by percentage, finishing ninth.

The 201cm-Hickey said there was consideration of returning home to Queensland, but steady improvement at the club convinced him to re-sign.

"We're a young group and we're on the improve," Hickey told the club's website.

"I've been here since we were at the bottom and (I'm) loving the rise we're having and hope it can continue."

The 22-year-old Dunstan, who's played 53 games for St Kilda since his 2014 debut, averaged more than 17 touches per game last season.

Dunstan, who was arrested by police in December after being found asleep in a public place, said his recovery from an off-season shoulder construction was on track.

He said he would play in Thursday's intra-club practice match and hoped to be available for pre-season competition selection.

"I had a few issues coming back with my last shoulder, but this one's been really smooth," the South Australian told the club's website.
