Baby killer Keli Lane's last hope of overturning her murder conviction has been lost, after the High Court rejected her bid to appeal.
Lane was found guilty in 2010 of murdering newborn Tegan within hours of leaving Auburn Hospital in September 1996 with the baby.
The 39-year-old water polo player then went to her parents' home, before attending a wedding that afternoon.
She was jailed in 2011 for at least 13 years and five months for the murder of two-day-old Tegan, with a maximum term of 18 years.
Following an unsuccessful bid to overturn her conviction last year at the NSW Court of Appeal, Lane took her case to the High Court.
But on Friday, Australia's highest court rejected her application for special leave to appeal.
In making the application, barrister Winston Terracini SC relied on two grounds: that an alternative count of manslaughter should have been open to the jury and that the closing address by Crown Prosecutor Mark Tedeschi QC caused a miscarriage of justice.
Mr Terracini said Lane's "concoction of lies over many years" was not necessarily consistent with a consciousness of guilt in relation to murder.
During Lane's trial, the court heard she'd had two terminations as a teenager and kept three pregnancies and births secret from family and friends.
Tegan was the middle child of the three secret babies, with the other two infants adopted out.
It was the crown's case that in the hours between taking Tegan from Auburn hospital until she got home, Lane killed her.
The fact that she did not make arrangements for Tegan showed her intent to kill the baby, the crown argued.
Lane, however, maintained she gave Tegan to the infant's father, with whom she had a brief affair and who she first named as Andrew Morris and then Andrew Norris.
Justice Patrick Keane, however, said the case was always "murder or nothing".
Justices Keane and Virginia Bell dismissed the application.
Lane's long-term boyfriend Patrick Cogan and her mother Sandra Lane were in court for the decision.
