The High Court will determine the lawfulness of the federal government's detention of asylum seekers for almost a month on board a customs vessel in June.
In a two-day hearing the Court will examine the case involving 157 Sri Lankan asylum seekers who were detained at sea before being transferred to Nauru's offshore detention centre.
Human Rights Law Centre Director of Legal Advocacy, Daniel Webb, says the case may force the government to review its policy.
Mr Webb spoke to Zara Zaher.
