High-flying Eagles eye big things in AFL

West Coast will be aiming to make it four wins on the trot when they host the struggling Suns in Perth on Saturday night.

The sky's the limit for West Coast this season after finally shedding their flat track bullies tag, according to defender Will Schofield.

The Eagles rocketed into second spot on the table following Sunday's shock 10-point win over the Power in Adelaide.

The gritty win over a premiership contender ended West Coast's two-year trend of flopping against finals-bound sides.

And with winnable games against Gold Coast (home), St Kilda (Etihad Stadium) and Geelong (home) to come over the next three weeks, West Coast have a perfect chance to boost their top-eight hopes.

"We expect big things from the team. It's an exciting year for us," Schofield said on Monday.

"It's a really young group, so the sky is the limit for us.

"But you can't come out one week and perform well and then the next drop off. Good teams are really consistent, so that's what we aim to do."

West Coast will be aiming to make it four wins on the trot when they take on Gold Coast in Saturday night's clash at Domain Stadium.

The Suns are struggling in 16th spot with a 1-5 record, but they're set to be boosted by the return of Harley Bennell, Brandon Matera and Trent McKenzie from club-imposed suspensions.

The trio was punished after breaking a team alcohol ban, but Schofield said the issue probably wouldn't be a topic of sledging this week.

"There's not too much you can say these days about much," Schofield said.

"You've probably just got to get on and play footy, and let Gold Coast handle what's going on with them."

Schofield has played a key role in West Coast's resurgence this season.

The 26-year-old has spent much of his 116-game career as a free-wheeling defender.

But with key backmen Mitch Brown and Eric Mackenzie out for the season, Schofield has performed admirably on some of the competition's best power forwards.

Swingman Jeremy McGovern has also been a revelation in defence, and Schofield said the makeshift set-up was gelling well.

"I'm not saying we're the best backline in the league or anything like that," Schofield said.
