His brother may be a star cricketer, but high-jumper Brandon Starc is hoping he's the one creating headlines.
Hours after his older brother Mitchell took four wickets in Australia's World Cup win against Scotland in Hobart, Brandon produced the performance of his life at the Sydney Track Classic on Saturday night.
The 21-year-old smashed his previous best mark by two centimetres to clear 2.30m and claim victory in an enthralling competition over world and Olympic bronze medallist, Canada's Derek Drouin, to qualify for the world titles in Beijing in August.
"Hopefully it will be my name not my brother's that will be in the media," Starc said.
"Good on him, he's been going well but I'm going well as well."
Starc said beating an Olympic medallist was a huge moment for him and competing against world class athletes like Drouin and his compatriot Michael Mason inspired him to lift.
"The Canadians coming out they pushed me the whole way," he said
"Jumping against them gave ma a little bit more to jump higher.
"It would be up there with one of the best scalps I've had."
Starc says he was aiming to book a spot at his world titles this year but admits he was surprised to clear the 2.28m qualifying mark by two centimetres.
Now he's aiming to better his 2.30m jump and continue to make waves among world class jumpers.
"I was expecting a qualifier this year, whether it was now or nationals in two weeks," he said.
"Maybe I'm a little bit surprised to jump 2.30 but I know I'm capable of more.
"It's a massive barrier to have jumped 2.30. Now that I have I just want to get more consistent at it and be competitive in the world class.
"That's the plan. I'm in the 2.30 club now."
