Veteran former Scottish international lock Nathan Hines signed for English Premiership side Sale Sharks on Monday from French giants Clermont.

The 37-year-old - born in Australia but capped 77 times by his adopted country - signed a two-year contract with Sale.

Hines, who in 2002 gained the unwanted tag of being the first Scottish player to be sent off in a Test match when he punched an American opponent, has been with Clermont for three seasons, including this one.

He had previously played for another French side Perpignan and Irish province Leinster, with whom he won the 2011 European Cup.
