Hird meets with rival AFL coaches

Essendon's James Hird has met with rival AFL coaches as part of his return to coaching after a 12-month ban.

Essendon's James Hird has fronted a "robust" meeting with three coaching rivals after completing his 12-month ban over the club's use of supplements in 2012.

Hird's suspension ended in August and the club great is set to guide the Bombers again in 2015 after interim coach Mark Thompson took the side to an elimination final last week.

The AFL Coaches' Association's acting chief executive Mark Brayshaw hosted a meeting on Thursday.

Western Bulldogs' Brendan McCartney, Gold Coast's Guy McKenna and Collingwood's Nathan Buckley were the only three senior coaches who turned up at Brayshaw's house to meet with Hird.

"It was a good meeting, all part of James' reconnecting with the coaches' association," Brayshaw said in a statement released to Nine's "The Footy Show" on Thursday night.

"He's had 12 months out, done his time, and what we had was a warm and robust conversation, a very mature conversation."
