Hockey confident of Greek debt deal

Treasurer Joe Hockey is confident that Europe will strike a deal over the Greek debt crisis before it defaults at the end of month.

Treasurer Joe Hockey is confident of an 11th hour deal being struck between Greece and its European creditors and the International Monetary Fund.

Eurozone finance ministers will hold talks on Wednesday in Brussels to thrash out the details of a plan to prevent a Greek default at the end of the month and exit from the euro ahead of a full meeting of all 28 EU leaders on Thursday.

"I am confident that the Europeans have been carefully managing what's happening in Greece ... the starting point has to be the goodwill of the Greek government coming to the table and being prepared to meet their obligations," Mr Hockey told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
