Hockey says growth figures are pleasing

The latest GDP figures show real momentum in the Australian economy, says treasurer Joe Hockey.

Treasurer Joe Hockey says the latest growth figures are a "pleasing set of numbers" that show real and building momentum in the Australian economy.

The economy grew by 0.5 per cent in the June quarter, taking gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the 12 months to June to 3.1 per cent.

"They are a pleasing set of numbers," Mr Hockey told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.

"Certainly the June quarter national accounts indicate that there is real and building momentum in the Australian economy."

There was significant momentum in the non-mining side of the economy, he said.
