The ink is barely dry on his mid-year update but Joe Hockey is keen to get started on his second budget in May.

The treasurer is making his annual call for submissions from individuals, business and community groups to garner their thoughts on the priorities for the 2015/16 budget.

"The government places considerable importance on receiving community views in developing its budget strategy and policies," Mr Hockey said in a statement on Thursday.

For the government's part, it will continue its commitment to repair the budget by living within its means, paying down debt and maintaining a credible path to surplus.

Submissions are due by Friday, February 6.

Mr Hockey handed down his mid-year 2014/15 budget review this week.
