Treasurer Joe Hockey says the Federal Government can afford to deliver income tax cuts and still balance the budget within five years.

Mr Hockey has promised to take personal income-tax cuts to the next election but has not said how the government would fund them.

 

Labor says it does not believe Mr Hockey can deliver on the promise without increasing other taxes.

 

And it says the move is just a political ploy ahead of the important by-election in the West Australian seat of Canning.
