Joe Hockey will be taking a trip to Bunnings on Friday.
Not to pick-up some DIY products but to launch the National Seniors Age Management Toolkit, a new resource to support an ageing workforce.
In a speech on Thursday, the treasurer noted Bunnings, the hardware store, is a company with a quarter of its workforce aged over 50.
He said through flexible work arrangements, such employers recognise and benefit from the experience of older Australians.
His soon to be released intergenerational report will show the need to encourage greater workforce participation.
It will show that over the next decade alone the working population is expected to increase by 12 per cent, yet the population of over-65s is expected to jump 36 per cent.
In other words, the number of people in the workforce supporting those who have left it will nearly halve over the next 40 years.
Mr Hockey will be visiting Bunnings' Chatswood, NSW branch.
