Hockey wants Sinodinos back on front bench

Joe Hockey wants his assistant treasurer back on the front bench, but will await the outcome of a NSW corruption inquiry that has grilled Arthur Sinodinos.

Arthur Sinodinos leaves ICAC hearing in April.

Treasurer Joe Hockey says he would like Arthur Sinodinos to return to his ministerial role.

The assistant treasurer stood aside earlier this year to address allegations raised in NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiries into the state Liberals.

Senator Sinodinos told an inquiry hearing last week he did not take responsibility for money being raised from banned donors such as property developers.

He acknowledged the party's finance committee oversaw donations made to the Liberals, but denied that as chairman it was his role to look at the identity of donors.

Mr Hockey said Senator Sinodinos's move to step aside had only ever been temporary.

"Arthur is a wonderful person and a man of great personal integrity," Mr Hockey told reporters in Sydney on Monday.

"From my perspective I would like to have my assistant treasurer back, but these things need to be resolved."

He said the situation could not be resolved until ICAC reported on its inquiries.
