Treasurer Joe Hockey has warned that the Abbott government's aim to get more people in work may actually cause some short term volatility in jobless figures.
Mr Hockey says it's likely the government's $6.8 billion Jobactive program will result in some people who were classified as not seeking work in June are now seeking work and therefore counted as part of the labour force.
"This may create short-term volatility in employment data but it reflects a structural improvement in participation, which is a key driver of growth," Mr Hockey told parliament in a ministerial statement on Wednesday.
