Hockeyroos book finals berth in Argentina

The Hockeyroos have beaten New Zealand to book a place in the final of the Champions Trophy and will play Argentina in the decider.

The Australian women's hockey team have defeated New Zealand on penalties to set up a clash with hosts Argentina in the final of the Champions Trophy.

The Hockeyroos were locked 1-1 at the end of regular time in their semi-final with the Kiwis before world No.3 Australia won the shootout 3-0.

Penalties from Georgia Nanscawen, Karri McMahon and Emily Smith secured victory for the Hockeyroos to book a place in Monday's decider.

The Australians fought back in regular time with a goal from Amelia Spence in the second half after trailing early in the match.

"It was a really good performance in the second half," said Australian coach Adam Commens.

"I felt we were well prepared coming into the shootout and executed really well. We are fortunate to get through to the finals."

Attention now turns to the final for the Hockeyroos.

"We now focus on getting a result in the final on Monday," Commens said.

"We will watch the Netherlands and Argentina's semi-final and take notes. We know both opponents very well and it will come down to what we do and how we do it."

Argentina defeated the Netherlands 2-1 to in their semi-final.
