Hockeyroos down Belgium in World League

Captain Madonna Blyth has produced a stunning save in the Hockeyroos' 2-0 win over host nation Belgium at the Hockey World League.

The Hockeyroos have continued their winning ways with a 2-0 victory over host nation Belgium at the Hockey World League.

Defenders Jodie Kenny and Karri McMahon grabbed the goals on Wednesday as Australia maintained a steady march towards the quarter-finals in Antwerp.

With the victory, the Hockeyroos stayed in second place in Pool B - behind New Zealand on goal difference alone - with a Friday morning (AEST) showdown against their trans-Tasman rivals set to decide top spot in the group.

Kenny's opener with a trademark top corner drag flick settled early nerves, while McMahon's low penalty stroke conversion near the end of the third quarter stretched the lead.

Goalkeeper Ashlee Wells also starred, making a string of fine saves, while captain Madonna Blyth celebrated equalling Nikki Hudson's record of 303 Hockeyroos appearances by producing a stunning diving block to save a goal.

"I thought Ash made some key saves and obviously Madonna's save on the line - they're match-winning saves those types of saves," coach Adam Commens said.

"I think that epitomises Madonna's commitment to the group. She played a pretty solid role throughout the midfield, as well.

"As the game went on she started to assert her influence on it."
