Hockeyroos into semis of Hawke's Bay Cup

Kathryn Slattery's early goal has lifted the Hockeyroos to a 1-0 quarter-final win over Argentina at the Hawke's Bay Cup.

Kathryn Slattery's early goal and a gritty defensive effort have steered the Hockeyroos into the semi-finals of the Hawke's Bay Cup in New Zealand.

A 1-0 quarter-final victory over Argentina on Thursday moved Australia's women's hockey team into the last four against China on Saturday.

Western Australia youngster Slattery's goal after just four minutes, slotted through the legs of Argentina goalkeeper Belen Succi, provided the perfect start for the Hockeyroos.

Argentina - known as Las Leonas - threw everything at Australia, but they couldn't find a way past goalkeeper Ashlee Wells.

Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens was happy with his side's resolute defence while he feels they are on the verge of a goal-scoring spree.

"I think it's coming. We've hit the crossbar a couple of times, we've hit the post a few times, we've had a number of balls dragged off the goal line and we've had a few sail past the back post," he said.

"I feel that in the coming games we'll be able to find the net a little bit easier than we have."

Captain Madonna Blyth is set to become only the second woman to represent Australia in 300 matches when she lines up against China.
