Hockeyroos into World League quarters

Australia's women wrapped up their group-stage campaign of the World League hockey event in Belgium by beating Spain 4-1.

Kathryn Slattery scored twice as the Hockeyroos beat Spain 4-1 to progress to the quarter-finals of the World League event in Belgium.

Australia bounced back from the previous day's 2-0 loss to New Zealand to dominate world no.10 Spain in their final pool-stage clash in Brussels on Sunday.

The Hockeyroos took the lead late it the first half after successfully defending two early Spanish penalty corners, with Slattery flicking home a Madi Fitzpatrick pass for the advantage.

Spain equalised after halftime, but the Hockeyroos wrested back momentum through Slattery's second goal and Georgie Morgan's conversion of a penalty corner in the third quarter.

Emily Smith scored Australia's fourth after the final break off a fast break.

The Hockeyroos finish the group stage with wins over Malaysia and hosts Belgium last week before the loss to the world no.5 Black Sticks.

Australia's coach Paul Gaudoin said the side, ranked fourth in the world, has improved throughout the tournament.

"Now we want to make sure we're setting ourselves up for a great quarter-final with all the learnings we've made along the way," he said.

Australia's quarter-finals opponent is yet to be decided, pending the outcome from pool games to be completed on Tuesday.

The top-four finishers at the 10-nation tournament will qualify for the World League Final in Auckland in November.
