Hockeyroos make Oceania Cup changes

The Hockeyroos have made three changes to their side for the Oceania Cup, less than a week out from the event, due to injuries.

A spate of injuries has forced the Hockeyroos to change three of their players for next week's Oceania Cup in Sydney.

Laura Barden has been ruled out with a quad injury, Edwina Bone with a knee issue and Jordyn Holzeberger with an injured hamstring.

Filling the gap in Australia's 18-member squad will be Kristina Bates, Gabrielle Nance and Brooke Peris.

Coach Paul Gaudion said it was a good chance for Peris to play her first game with the side for the year and for Bates and Nance to "push their claims".

"It's disappointing to lose three players," he said on Thursday in a statement.

"However, we're confident the depth in the squad will allow us to achieve our goals."

Australia will play New Zealand and Papua New Guinea in the biennial series, which begins on Wednesday at Sydney Olympic Park.

The Hockeyroos have won six of nine editions of the Oceania Cup, with Australia and New Zealand always part of the event and Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Samoa invited to compete.
