NSW halfback Trent Hodkinson is resigned to leaving Canterbury at season's end as Gold Coast and Newcastle fight it out for his services.
The Bulldogs have opted for Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye as their long-term halves combination with Hodkinson in the unusual position of possibly being a State of Origin series-winning halfback next Thursday without a club.
Hodkinson has found form at the right time for the Blues heading into next week's Origin decider and is determined not to let his contract talk distract him in the lead-up, whether or not he sorts out his future before the Suncorp Stadium decider.
""It's not a distraction at all," Hodkinson said at the Blues' Coffs Harbour base on Wednesday.
"It has been going on for a while now and I have just have to put it behind me and play some good footy on the field and it will look after itself, first and foremost I have a Origin game to prepare for. and then get that sorted afterward."
When asked if a departure from Canterbury was probable, Hodkinson replied: "Yes".
"I obviously have a couple of options out there and the Dogs (also) trying to squeeze under that salary cap.
"It is tough at all clubs, it has been a slow process but it is something I am keen to get sorted as soon as I can.
"A decision is not too far away, we were pushing to get it done before Origin but if it happens afterwards that is no drama I am focused on the game and I can't wait."
