Modest and uneven global economic growth makes it all the more important G20 leaders deliver on promises made at the Brisbane summit, Treasurer Joe Hockey says.

Mr Hockey will meet G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Washington next week, as well as hold a series of bilateral talks.

Global growth remained modest and uneven while financial markets remained volatile, he said on Friday.

"G20 members need to follow through on their ambition to lift growth by an additional two per cent by 2018.

"As such, I strongly support the G20's focus on implementing the G20 growth strategies we agreed to last year in Brisbane."

Mr Hockey will also attend a IMF-World Bank meeting, where he will give an update on setting up the Global Infrastructure Hub in Sydney.

The hub, whose board will hold its first meeting in Washington next week, aims to provide expert advice on public and private infrastructure investment.

Mr Hockey will talk individually to finance ministers from Germany and China, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde, World Bank president Dr Jim Yong Kim and OECD secretary-general Angel Gurria.

In New York he will hold a series of meetings with corporate executives and speak at an event hosted by Morgan Stanley on the future of global commerce.

The next G20 leaders summit, last hosted by Brisbane in 2014, will be held in Turkey in November.
