Home sales have increased across all but one of the capital cities in the past seven days, marking the busiest week for auctions since the end of May, while home prices remain flat virtually across the board.

There were 2,759 auctions held across the combined main capital cities in the week to September 24, up from a revised 2,510 the previous week, preliminary figures from property data group Corelogic show.

The national capital city auction clearance rate reached 70.7, up from 66.7 in the previous week, but Corelogic said that was down compared to the clearance rate of 75.4 per cent recorded the same time a year ago when 2,480 homes went under the hammer.

The property data group said the auction clearance rate has been hovering around the 66 per cent mark for three weeks, with last week's remaining results due to be collected on Thursday.

Home prices were flat in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth but grew marginally in Melbourne - up 0.2 per cent for the week.

Meanwhile, the capital city average for home values was up 0.2 per cent for the month and 8.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
