The homicide squad has taken over an investigation into the fatal assault of a man at a regional Victorian sports club.

Homicide detectives have taken over an investigation into the death of a man at a regional Victorian sports club.

Police say the 47-year-old man was assaulted about 5.45pm on Saturday at the club in Edgars Road, Heywood.

He could not be revived by paramedics at the time and detectives are waiting for autopsy results.
