These days, the Brisbane Lions don't do honourable losses.
The rebuilding Lions showed they could be a 2017 surprise packet when they led Essendon in the final quarter, only to be over-run by 27 points in their round two AFL clash.
It would be enough to encourage the battling Lions of the past.
But coach Chris Fagan is hardly satisfied.
"We believe that's a game we had opportunities to win and we didn't take that opportunity," Fagan said on Wednesday.
"We're not going to be satisfied with honourable losses.
"That is a trap and it's not a trap we're going to fall for.
"Our players were extremely disappointed after the game ...(and) were even more disappointed on Monday when I showed them the vision from the game and the opportunities we missed."
Fagan has threatened to make up to six changes for Sunday's game against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
He says Claye Beams, Josh Schache and draftees Jarrod Berry, Hugh McCluggage and Cedric Cox were knocking on the selection door after fine reserves form.
"There's that competitive tension for spots in the side," Fagan said.
"There's certainly five or six players in line for selection.
"Shack (Schache) is certainly one of those.
"It's exciting for the footy club that we've actually got pressure on for spots.
"We'll probably decide tomorrow which way we'll go."
