Australian researchers say they are growing increasingly hopeful of finding a cure to drug-resistant leukaemia in children.

Melbourne's Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre says it has had some very promising results in testing a therapy to help child leukaemia patients respond more effectively to chemotherapy.

The centre has now received a $300,000 funding boost for its research work from Cancer Council Victoria.

One of the centre's researchers, Dr Michaela Waibel has told Michael Kenny, the funding is a major step forward in the search for a cure for childhood leukaemia.
