Federal MPs pushing for the legalisation of medicinal cannabis hope it will become a reality before year's end.

The cross-party group supporting a private Greens bill say they will work towards tweaking the legislation after a parliamentary committee recommended it pass with minor amendments.

Greens leader Richard Di Natale said the minor party would bring it on for debate in a couple of months.
