Alarm over the current outbreak of Ebola in West Africa may be fading, but efforts are continuing across the world to develop a vaccine to combat the virus.

One international team of scientists that believes it could be on the verge of a breakthrough includes researchers in Australia, Russia, and France.

Lead researcher at the University of Queensland, Professor Alexander Khromykh says the team is awaiting the results of tests that involved vaccinating monkeys with an experimental vaccine, using a virus made in Australia.

The professor told Olga Klepova the next stage will be human clinical trials.
