Australian Nick Hough has run well below his best and been eliminated in the 110m hurdles at the world athletics championships.
Hough, 21, could only manage to finish sixth in his heat in 13.69 seconds - more than a quarter of a second outside his personal best.
American big guns David Oliver (13.15) and Aries Merritt (13.25) led the qualifying list on Wednesday.
Australians Collis Birmingham and Brett Robinson were both eliminated in the heats of the men's 5000m.
Competing at his fourth straight world titles, the experienced Birmingham finished 13th in the quickest of the two heats in 13:34.58.
Robinson was 10th in the opening heat in 13:49.63.
Ethiopians Hagos Gebrhiwet and Yomif Kejelcha were the first-round winners, while British superstar Mo Farah also eased into Saturday's final.
Farah is looking to replicate the 5000m-10,000m double he achieved at the London Olympics and the 2013 world championships.
