Housing prices rise 0.4 pct in Feb

After rising by 0.9 per cent in January, capital city home values rose by about 0.4 per cent in February, preliminary figures from CoreLogic RP Data show.

The housing price boom ain't dead yet.

Capital city housing prices look to have extended January's rise of 0.9 per cent by another 0.4 per cent or so in February

CoreLogic RP Data's research director Tim Lawless said the average rise in prices over the first 25 days of February in the five mainland state capitals was 0.4 per cent. That set the scene for a lift in the final measure for the month for all capitals, due for release on Tuesday.

But the market has lost some momentum.

"While values continue to rise, at least at a macro level, the trend rate of growth is continuing to wind down, with the annual rate of growth trimming back to 7.5 per cent after moving through a recent peak of 11.1 per cent in July last year," Mr Lawless said.
