How the Dreamworld ride tragedy unfolded

Four people died when the Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned at Dreamworld on Tuesday.

HOW THE DREAMWORLD TRAGEDY UNFOLDED

* The Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctions around 2.20pm on Tuesday

* One vacant carriage becomes stuck at the bottom of a conveyor belt

* The carriage following behind carries six passengers; Roozi Araghi and his partner Luke Dorsett; Kate Goodchild and Cindy Low and a 12-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy

* The second carriage hits the trapped carriage and flips

* The four adult passengers are trapped, two on the conveyor belt and two in the water below.

* The two children survive in what police have hailed as "almost a miracle"

* Emergency workers rush to the scene but the four adults are declared dead

* Dreamworld has been closed until further notice while police investigate the tragedy

* Gold Coast Acting Commissioner Brian Codd has vowed the police investigation will leave no stone unturned.
