Howard calls for bipartisanship on reforms

John Howard believes federal Labor should be advocating sound policy in opposition - and could be surprised at the dividend.

Former prime minister John Howard believes Labor should be helping the government by supporting economic reform.

Mr Howard, in an opinion piece in The Australian Financial Review, says the coalition in opposition backed many economic reforms achieved under the Hawke and Keating Labor governments.

"Political leaders and parties have a responsibility to advocate sound policy in opposition as well as government," Mr Howard writes, adding Labor could be surprised at the dividend.
