Huddersfield cruise to Super League win

Former Castleford halfback Jamie Ellis was the hero for Huddersfield as they brought the Tigers back down to earth with a bump 22-0 following their Super League rout of Wigan.

While most eyes were on one-time Castleford favourite Craig Huby as he faced his home-town club for the first time, his former Tigers teammate Ellis grabbed the limelight in a drab game with the only try of an error-strewn first half that put the Giants on their way to an ultimately convincing victory.

The Tigers, led for the first time by Luke Dorn in the absence of the injured Michael Shenton, were a shadow of the side that humiliated Wigan 42-14 as they went down rather tamely to a fourth defeat in five games.

Huddersfield, who have improved gradually after a shaky start to the season to climb to fifth in the table, defended superbly and in skipper Danny Brough had someone able to supply a rare touch of class to the otherwise dull proceedings.

In fact an eminently forgettable match will best be remembered for the wing duel between Castleford's 'Tank on the Flank' Justin Carney and the tigerish Jermaine McGillvary.

Carney managed to knock Huddersfield's towering prop Eorl Crabtree flying with one of his devastating trademark hand-offs but he could not get the better of his diminutive opposite number, who was named the Giants' man of the match before he scored the last try.
