Hughton calls for Brighton tenacity at City

Brighton's well-organised defence frustrated Liverpool's front three before forward Mohamed Salah sealed a 1-0 victory for the early pace-setters in August.

Hughton's side battled from two goals down and struck a 90th-minute penalty to draw 2-2 draw at Southampton this month.

"You have to look at the good examples we have had, particularly away from home and try and get as close to that as you can," Hughton told a news conference.

"In the form that they're in, the two toughest games are Liverpool and City away. But you always have to look at the pluses in those type of games. Nobody expects us to get anything, which helps take the pressure off.

"But it's a game we want to stay in and do as well as we can. That's the great challenge the players have."

Hughton stressed the need for his players to keep things tight at the back against Pep Guardiola's second-placed side.

"They're going to have the large majority of possession and will test us for 90 minutes... we have to be defensively resilient but also good on the ball. If you keep giving it back there's generally only one outcome," he said.

Brighton, who are 13th in the table, will be without midfielders Dale Stephens (hamstring) and Pascal Gross (ankle) due to injury.
