Hull KR trounce Wakefield in Super League

Hull KR are jujst three points outside the Super League top eight after thumping sixth-placed Wakefield 54-16.

Just 12 months after being shown the door by Wakefield, Hull KR interim boss James Webster returned to haunt his former Super League club by master-minding a 54-16 thumping of the Wildcats.

With former NRL playmakers Terry Campese and Albert Kelly combining brilliantly in the midfield, winger Kieran Dixon finished with a scored a hat-trick of tries in his first appearance for six weeks.

The win revived Wakefield's top-eight hopes, while increasing the pressure on Wakefield coach Chris Chester, who lost his job as head coach of Hull KR after they suffered a surprise 14-12 home defeat to the Wildcats in February.

After overseeing eight wins from his first 10 matches, Chester has now overseen heavy back-to-back defeats.

Skipper Campese - playing only his second full game of an injury-disrupted 2016 - was in the thick of everything, with Rovers exposing their opponents' vulnerability under the high ball in the third minute when a fumble by winger Tom Johnstone enabled Maurice Blair to get Dixon over for his first try of the game.

By halftime, Rovers had established a 26-10 lead, with the visitors moving to within three points of eighth-placed Widnes, who have a game in hand.
