Hunger in the classroom worsens: survey

A Foodbank Australia survey of school teachers suggests children are increasingly turning up to class on an empty stomach.

Children are increasingly arriving at school hungry, new research by Foodbank Australia shows.

The food relief organisation surveyed 532 primary and secondary school teachers, with 67 per cent reporting seeing children come to school hungry.

More than one in four respondents said the problem was getting worse.

Foodbank said hungry schoolchildren were more prevalent in Australia's regional and rural areas than in capital cities.
