Hunt announces $22m boost for med research

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced $22 million in funding to help Australian businesses move from medical breakthroughs to commercial success.

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says a $22 million government investment will help Australian patients access better medicines and treatments.

The funding, the latest from the government's $20b medical future fund, will aim to help medical businesses move from early-stage discoveries to operating on a commercial scale large enough to deliver them to patients.

"This program will provide our world class health and medical researchers with financial support and mentoring to fast-track their breakthroughs to commercially-relevant outcomes," Mr Hunt said.

"They will also work to secure third-party co-investment in the projects to boost the government's commitment."
