Warriors centre Konrad Hurrell is facing a minimum three-match ban over the incident that left Cronulla's Anthony Tupou with a shattered jaw.
The giant Warriors centre was served with a grade three dangerous contact charge by the NRL match review committee on Monday.
Hurrell appeared to lift his knee as he prepared to bump off Tupou's tackle with his hip.
The knee then struck Tupou's jaw as he went in low during the Warriors' 20-16 win over the Sharks at Remondis Stadium on Saturday.
Warriors coach Andrew McFadden said after the game that he didn't think there was anything untoward in the incident.
"He might have raised (the knee) a bit, it's pretty typical of Konrad to run like that," he said.
"He sort of turns his hip into people so I thought it was accidental and maybe even that Tupou just put his head on the wrong side."
The Cronulla backrower was taken to hospital where he had surgery that reportedly required four metal plates, screws and wiring.
Hurrell, who was recalled to first grade after being axed to NSW Cup last week, will miss three weeks with an early guilty plea.
In 2013, Newcastle prop Kade Snowden was outed for two games after his raised knee broke the cheekbone of Penrith forward Adam Docker.
Penrith's Tyrone Peachey can get away with a minimum two-match ban if he pleads guilty to a grade two lifting tackle on Brisbane's Adam Blair in the Panthers' loss to Brisbane on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Brisbane prop and State of Origin hopeful Josh McGuire is looking at one match on the sidelines for a grade one dangerous throw on the Panthers' Bryce Cartwright.
McGuire will be unable to further press his Origin claims against North Queensland on Friday whether he takes an early guilty plea or not.
Cronulla's Sami Sauiluma has also been slapped with a grade one dangerous contact charge on Bodene Thompson but will be available for next week's clash with Gold Coast if he takes the early guilty plea.
