Hurrell gets first taste of NRL for 2016

Konrad Hurrell, who made his first NRL appearance of the year off the bench, says he's continuing work on what he has to do to reclaim his Warriors spot.

Warriors fan favourite Konrad Hurrell received a huge cheer when he came off the bench to make his first NRL appearance of 2016.

The blockbusting centre was introduced early in the second half of the 40-18 win over Newcastle in Auckland on Monday as replacement for forward Albert Vete.

He went off when he was hurt in a tackle, then came back on in his more familiar position in the backs after Solomone Kata was substituted because of a minor knee complaint.

"It was good man," Hurrell said after his 18 minutes of game time.

"I'll take every minute and every second of time I get to play with these boys."

Until this season, the 24-year-old Hurrell had played 68 matches for the Warriors and scored 41 tries after making his debut in early 2012.

He appeared in the NRL All Stars match in February - scoring a try - but has since had to bide his time in reserve grade.

"I'm just working on the stuff I have to work on so when I get back up there I don't get dropped again," he said.

"It's just the same things - defence and securing the ball. Obviously I can run, but it's just holding on to the ball and doing effort after effort."

Hurrell's first spell against the Knights ended after he had his arm caught awkwardly in a tackle that led to opposition winger Nathan Ross being put on report.

Ross was the second Knights player put on report after hooker Danny Levi for a similar incident in a tackle on prop Sam Lisone late in the first half.
