Melbourne Rebels prop Laurie Weeks will have scans on his knee while his team try to recover from a second-half ambush by Super Rugby leaders, the Hurricanes.
The Rebels led 12-10 at halftime in their Wellington clash, but the unbeaten Hurricanes showed why they are six from six, powering home after the break to win 36-12.
Melbourne will now host Queensland on Good Friday, with both teams desperate for a win.
The Reds were also left shell-shocked after losing their Suncorp Stadium clash with the Lions 18-17.
The Rebels are likely to be without Weeks, who became the most-capped Melbourne player in the Hurricanes match, after he suffered an early leg injury.
"He will have scans on Monday so we won't know more until then but we don't think it's season-ending," a Rebels spokesman said on Saturday.
Melbourne were dismayed by their inability to penetrate the yellow wall of defence despite spending nine minutes midway through the second half attacking the tryline.
The Hurricanes even had a man down with halfback TJ Perenara yellow-carded for repeated team infringements.
Instead the home side threw it back in Melbourne's face, scoring three late tries to ensure they left without a single competition point for their efforts.
Rebels coach Tony McGahan was bitterly disappointed his side couldn't capitalise on 57 per cent of possession and 134 runs to the Hurricanes' 98.
After tight losses at AAMI Park to the Waratahs, Brumbies and Lions, Melbourne say they need a win, with their season record now 2-4.
"We need to turn it around," McGahan said. "We've lost three really close games at home and we need to make sure that we front up at home.
"We need to make sure that we get a result."
