England allrounder Tim Bresnan has signed with the Big Bash League's Hobart Hurricanes.

The 29-year-old has joined the squad as a replacement player for West Indian Darren Sammy.

He said he's looking forward to taking last year's runner-up side deep into the Twenty20 competition again this year.

"I think because (the Hurricanes) tasted defeat in the final, they'll be that much hungrier," Bresnan, who currently plays for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, said.

He said he was a big fan of the Big Bash format and hoped it would catch on internationally.

Bresnan lands in Australia in late December and will be available to play against the Melbourne Renegades at Blundstone Arena on January 7.

Sammy will only play the first half of the BBL before going into camp with the West Indies for their ICC World Cup preparations.
