David Pocock has apologised for the neck hold on Chiefs No.8 Michael Leitch which earned the Brumbies flanker a two-match Super Rugby suspension.
Pocock was cited for foul play on Leitch at a maul late in Saturday's 48-23 loss to the Chiefs, and on Tuesday faced the SANZAAR judiciary.
He received a three-week suspension which was reduced by one week, taking into account his early plea, good character, genuine remorse and excellent disciplinary record.
Pocock apologised in a statement on his website.
"I am incredibly disappointed with my actions. I endeavour to play the game I love in a way that reflects the kind of toughness and decency I think rugby can teach us," he said.
"On Saturday night I did not live up to those standards, placing Michael Leitch in danger by binding on his neck in a maul."
Pocock said it wasn't his intention to hurt Leitch.
"But in these sorts of circumstances it is not intention that matters.
"I am grateful that World Rugby and SANZAAR are concerned about making the game safer for all of us."
As well as again apologising to Leitch, Pocock extended his apologies to the Chiefs, Brumbies "and all those who follow rugby".
"I'd also like to apologise to my teammates, who I will let down over the next few weeks while suspended."
Pocock will sit out clashes with the NSW Waratahs at Allianz Stadium on April 16 and the Crusaders the following Sunday at home.
