Treasurer Scott Morrison insists he didn't mislead the public by claiming he warned the former prime minister Tony Abbott of a possible party room revolt.
Mr Abbott accused his former social services minister of misleading Australians by saying he'd advised the prime minister's office that "things were febrile" and to be on high alert.
Mr Morrison told ABC's 7.30 program on Wednesday he has never misled the public, claiming he'd always been upfront on these types of issues.
Mr Abbott claims he was never told of the possible challenge to his leadership before Malcolm Turnbull ousted him last Monday.
But the treasurer said he never indicated he had warned Mr Abbott personally and believes if the then-prime minister wanted to take it up with him, that was his prerogative.

The treasurer refused to be drawn further on the leadership challenge.
