I don't want to lead LNP: Langbroek

John-Paul Langbroek, who led the LNP in opposition, says he has no interest in leading the party again should Campbell Newman lose his seat.

Queensland's education minister says he has no interest in leading his party again should Premier Campbell Newman lose his seat.

John-Paul Langbroek says he's confident Mr Newman will retain his Ashgrove seat at the next election.

Political commentators have said the LNP is likely to retain government but Mr Newman will lose his seat, leaving the party to scramble for a new leader.

Mr Langbroek, who was opposition leader from 2009-11, says Mr Newman is the best person to lead the party, and he wouldn't comment on speculation that Treasurer Tim Nicholls and Transport Minister Scott Emerson are considered likely successors.

"We're not speculating on things like that. We're focused on doing things that are important for Queensland," he told ABC radio.

"The people of Queensland will decide when we have an election.

"I"m happy doing the job I'm doing."

Mr Newman this week backflipped on three controversial policies in a bid to show voters he's listening to them, and isn't too proud to admit his mistakes.

The backdown followed a 18.6 per cent swing against the LNP in a weekend by-election in Stafford, which neighbours the premier's Ashgrove electorate.

A number of political commentators have said Mr Newman will lose the seat at the next poll, but the LNP will scrap back into power.

The commentators include election analyst Malcolm Mackerras, who worked for the federal Liberal Party during the 1960s.

He's predicted a 10 per cent swing against the LNP, reducing it from 73 to 50 seats, but still see the party keeping its majority in the 89-seat parliament.
