Dylan Farrow says she expected a smear campaign aimed against her after publicly accusing Woody Allen of sexual abuse.
The 28-year-old adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen published an open letter in The New York Times, in which she accused the director of sexually assaulting her at the age of seven.
The explosive piece has led some people to accuse her of lying, but Dylan says she was prepared for a backlash.
"I knew there were people saying I was a liar and that this was part of some smear campaign - some bitter vendetta of my mother's," she has told People magazine.
"I didn't realise that it was going to be a betrayal of this magnitude."
Dylan's brother Moses, 36, told the publication earlier this week his adopted father Allen "did not molest" his sister.
And although she feels double-crossed by her sibling, Dylan is equally incensed with dismissive reactions from the public.
"People are saying that I am not actually remembering what I remember. People are saying that my 'evil mother' brainwashed me because they refuse to believe that my sick, evil father would ever molest me, because we live in this society where victim blaming and inexcusable behaviour - this taboo against shaming the famous at the expense of their victims - is accepted and excused," she said.
Dylan believes her piece is ultimately of benefit to society, as it may inspire sexual abuse victims to speak up.
"I am hoping to help at least one person out there. And that's why I spoke out," she said.
Allen has always strongly denied any wrong doing. His lawyer Elkan Abramowitz spoke out in defence of his client earlier this week.
"His reaction is one of overwhelming sadness because of what has happened to Dylan," Elkan said on the Today show.
The lawyer went on to explain Dylan was a "pawn" in her mother Mia's bitter breakup with Allen nearly 20 years ago.
