FIFA president Sepp Blatter has increased speculation over his future by saying he has not resigned from his position at the scandal-hit world football governing body.

"I have not resigned," Blatter told the Swiss paper Blick in comments published on Friday. "Rather, I have made my mandate available at an extraordinary congress."

Blatter was re-elected for a fifth term as FIFA president on May 29 but seemingly stepped back on June 2 in light of Swiss and American investigations into FIFA corruption.

Blick reported Blatter, speaking at an event promoting the FIFA museum that will open in 2016, was in high spirits despite his seemingly precarious situation.

"For me personally, this museum is a labour of love," he was quoted as telling the audience. "But do not get me wrong - I am not going into the museum or to the waxworks yet."
