Wonderkid Tom Trbojevic has designs on making Manly's fullback spot his own.

But he knows first he has to wait for Brett Stewart to move on.

Trbojevic was one of the Sea Eagles' best in a badly beaten side in their NRL opening round loss to Canterbury on Friday.

Filling in for Stewart, who was ruled out due to a hamstring problem, Trbojevic was heavily involved making 183m from 20 runs.

It was a look to the future at Brookvale.

"It is very different to playing on the wing, I did enjoy it, but 'Snake' (Stewart) will be back this weekend.

"I have played fullback my whole life so that is something I do see myself playing.

"But Snake is there, he is the best fullback in the game just about and I am learning a lot from him."

Stewart trained by himself at Manly's Narrabeen base on Monday, but he is expected to be fit for the Sea Eagles' round two encounter with Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval.

That will push Trbojevic back onto the wing.

For the time being, anyway.

Tigers fullback James Tedesco shapes as a key player for Manly to stop, after the Tigers' impressive round one win over the Warriors.

"He is very, very quick, we have to find a way to handle him," Trbojevic said.

Halfback Luke Brooks returns to the Tigers' side after serving a round one suspension.
