Ibbotson won't sledge wayward Joe Daniher

Essendon forward Joe Daniher will have a point to prove against Fremantle this weekend after booting a wayward 1.6 against Melbourne.

Fremantle defender Garrick Ibbotson insists he will steer clear of sledging Essendon forward Joe Daniher about his goalkicking in Sunday's AFL clash at Domain Stadium.

Daniher has copped widespread criticism after booting 1.6 and two out on the full in last week's loss to Melbourne.

He was also criticised for hugging opponent - Demons defender and former teammate - Michael Hibberd in an awkward exchange in the second half.

It came just five days after the 23-year-old won the Anzac Day medal for his haul of 3.4 in a win over Collingwood.

Overall, Daniher has booted 13.16 this season - a 45 per cent conversion rate that is well below that of a typical key forward.

Ibbotson is set to be stationed somewhere close to Daniher on Sunday, but said he'd avoid the temptation to sledge.

"It's always tough to sledge a forward, because they kick a couple and it's backfired already," Ibbotson said.

"I'll just try to play my role as best I can and keep quiet."

The Dockers are well aware how hard it can be to contain a key forward after conceding six goals to Eagles spearhead Josh Kennedy last week.

Defender Joel Hamling was comprehensively beaten by Kennedy, but he wasn't helped by the fact he was often isolated against the powerful Eagle.

Ibbotson said it was crucial for the rest of the team's defence to ensure a repeat didn't happen this weekend.

"We looked at the vision during the week and how we could have helped Joel a bit more," Ibbotson said.

"We don't want isolation one-on-ones in our D-50. Where we can help, we'll do it better."
