British world welterweight champion Kell Brook announced on Thursday he will fight Romanian Jo Jo Dan in March in his first fight since being stabbed in the leg last September.
Brook, 28, won the IBF title by beating America's Shawn Porter last August. He will defend the belt against Canada-based Dan at the Motorpoint Arena in his hometown of Sheffield on March 28.
Soon after beating Porter, Brook sustained serious leg injuries in a machete attack while on holiday on the Spanish island of Tenerife, but he is now ready to return to the ring.
"It will be emotional, after winning the world title last year, but then a few weeks later having an horrific knife attack," Brook told a press conference in Sheffield.
"I was wondering if I would walk again, never mind fight, but now I am feeling fit."
Dan, 33, is Brook's mandatory IBF challenger, although the fight is a voluntary defence. Dan has won 34 of his 36 bouts, while Brook boasts a 33-0 record.
