When Afghanistan's national cricket team defeated Kenya in a match in 16 months ago, there were wild celebrations across the country.

For the first time, Afghanistan had qualified for the next World Cup - which finally gets underway this weekend, in Australia and New Zealand.

World Cup qualification was viewed as a major achievement by the Afghan national team, which was only founded in 2001.

Team manager Bashir Stanekzai spoke to Zara Zaher about the significance of participation in the Cup.
