Uncle Jack Charles was a survivor of the Stolen Generation, a former heroin addict and prison inmate who cleaned up his life against all the odds.
Now he wants to help others from the same walk of life to do the same.
'It's tweaked a lot of consciences, both black and white', Charles says of the work he has taken to the UK.
'It's a wake-up call. They haven't heard these stories and in reality white Australia is pretty racsst against us. We haven't really gained an inch; we're on the lowest run - still.'
Jack now wants to devote his time to others battling addiction.
'Every time I shoved a little of the white powder in my arm I started to lose my Aboriginality.'
Charles says he'd also be keen on returning to prison - this time as a mentor - to encourage others to follow their dreams.
SBS Europe Correspondent Brett Mason has more.
